One of the bloodiest conflicts of the Civil War, this battle is interpreted in a newly expanded 3,000 square foot museum in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Video and oral histories tell the story from the personal perspectives of local residents as well as soldiers. Dramatic audio programs accompany lifecast figures within an environmental surround, helping visitors imagine the battle and empathize with the soldiers. The hard-earned Union victory was achieved the day after the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect, adding power to President Lincoln’s new order. The exhibit explores the long-range impact of the battle “after the smoke cleared,” using multimedia programs, and an interactive model animated with sound & fiberoptics.
