Site visits were undertaken to position the exterior exhibits in optimum locations. Additional trips provided the subject and environmental sensitivity needed to interpret Mojave’s unique resources properly. Twenty wayside exhibits were developed for this phase of the project.
The planning process involved meetings with leaders of multiple local tribes. Content development included original subject and image research, as well as text writing and editing. A new prototype interpretive trailhead signage system was also developed and tested for use throughout the preserve.
When staff reductions increased the workload of Park staff, the Henley Company agreed to extend the design schedule to accommodate their needs, developing the exhibits in batches, over a lengthy two year span, more conducive to the staff’s adjusted review and approval availability.
